Kiev: The III Arbitration School was held

4-8 of May 2015 the offices of the leading law firms Baker&McKenzie and Asters successfully hosted the III Arbitration School jointly organized by the Ukrainian Arbitration Association and the League of Students of the Ukrainian Bar Association.

 

Participants from Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania took part in the intensive five-day program.  General and specialized international arbitration courses were presented in the form of lectures, interactive workshops and mock case in English. The School’s speakers included reputed arbitration practitioners from Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Great Britain, Poland and France. 

The official launch of the event began with a welcoming speech and lectures of the speakers and coordinators of the III Arbitration School Olena Perepelynska and Yaroslav Petrov (UAA Board Member and Secretary General respectively).

After the introductory lectures on arbitration agreement and initiation of arbitral proceedings, participants started to work on the mock case in two teams coached by Nikita Nota & Oksana Varakina (Avellum Partners) and Vladimir Yaremko & Oksana Karel (Arzinger).

The first day program ended with the  lecture of Vladimir Khvalei (Baker & McKenzie, ICC International Court of Arbitration) about the competence of the arbitral tribunal and adoption of procedural rules for the proceedings.

The second day of School was dedicated to the main stages of the arbitral proceedings, lectures were presented by Artem Doudko (White & Case LLP), Olga Troshchenovych (Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer), Andrey Panov (Norton Rose Fulbright). Also James Clіfford - practicing English Maitland Chambers barrister, made presentation on arbitration hearings and cross-examination. The day ended with the preparation for the mock case hearing.

The third day began with a presentation of Maciej Zachariasiewicz (Kozminski University) on the enforcement and setting aside of arbitral awards. Major part of the day was devoted to the mock arbitration hearing, after which the participants visited the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where they heard a lecture of the ICAC President Mykola Fedosovich Selivon.

The fourth day speakers were Rafal Morek (K&L Gates), Ivan Kasynyuk (AGA Partners), Anton Sotir (FFU), Maria Gritsenko (Bryan Cave), and Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi (Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners), who talked about specific features of different types of specialized arbitrations.

The final fifth day began with a lecture of Noah Rubins (Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer) providing  comparative analysis of different arbitration rules. Then the participants took part in the Round Table discussion on making career in international arbitration moderated by Yaroslav Petrov (Asters). The speakers of the round table were Tatiana Slipachuk (UAA), Markiyan KlyuchkovskiyMaria Gritsenko and Olena Perepelynska (Sayenko Kharenko). Later on with the support of Baker&McKenzie all the participants received books on arbitration.

Annual Arbitration School was launched by Ukrainian Arbitration Association to help young professionals interested in arbitration to gain knowledge and access to information and expertise of Ukrainian and foreign international arbitration experts. This year  School  got very exciting feedback from the participants.
